kitano

The awesome and incredible “Beat” Takeshi Kitano (Battle Royale, Fireworks, Outrage) has been cast to play Chief Aramaki, in the anticipated live action Ghost in the Shell movie. I think he is a great choice to play the commanding officer of section 9, and will love to see him in this movie. With a March 31, 2017 release date at hand, you should expect more and more news regarding the film!

Death-Note

According to Collider, producer Roy Lee told the entertainment site that there is “zero chance” that the planned Death Note movie will receive anything lower than a R rating. The movie hasn’t been officially greenlit but roy is “fairly confident” that production on the film will begin this year. Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) has signed on to direct the film, lets hope that Hollywood doesn’t screw this up. But then again do we need a hollywood version of Death Note since we already have the Japanese live action movies?

Not since 2004’s Godzilla Final wars, has there been a new Japanese Godzilla movie. I guess the 2014 Hollywood Godzilla was popular enough to show them people are still into Godzilla because according to Website Cinema Today, the Japanese franchise is undergoing a revival, in response to the heightened fan support after Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures’ Hollywood Godzilla film became a worldwide hit.It will be awesome to see how the Japanese will portray their legendary monster. Will they go back to the classics and use a lot of practical effects or go the super CGI route of Hollywood. We will have to wait until 2016 to find out. TOHO proclaimed, “The time has come to make a film that will not bow down to the Hollywood film,” This godzilla will have nothing to do with the 2014 film and will be one in its own! Production starts summer next year!

Are Otaku really the problem?, I know the word Otaku in the US has a much different meaning to that of its Japanese origin( I wrote a article describing those differences HERE ) but of course I figure Miyazaki is referring to the Otaku of Japan(US nerds are safe….kinda)! In a recent television interview the renowned directer of long lasting classics is quoted saying that the anime industry is in trouble because industry staff is made up of otaku who “don’t spend time watching real people” and are “humans who can’t stand looking at other humans.” Sounds a bit harsh, but Miazaki explained that animating people can only come from people who have observed other people. I guess people who are social and can get the mannerisms down and regular motion of human beings. Otaku’s of Japan are not social and I guess thats why he see’s the anime industry is suffering. What do you think? Does the anime industry need a change of the people who work in it?

Missing the Iconic headband, terrible special effects, this trailer for the live action Kiki’s Delivery Service looks bad and cheap. It might be just the trailer was cut very poorly but from the looks of it, this movie doesn’t seem to be a good adaptation. Every time I watched her fly on the broom stick I cringed from how lame it looked. Its sad to, because I loved the Anime I hope they don’t turn this classic into another failed adaptation. Set to be released in Japan on March 1st 2014. Check Out the trailer below after the break, and let us know what you think.  Continue reading »

So now that the trailer is out having a October release date at the end, they decided to push it back till November. November 27th to be exact, thats thanksgiving weekend. There hasn’t been a reason given for the push back, but most likely they see it being more profitable at the box office that date. Check out the trailer for Oldboy after the break if you haven’t seen it already. Continue reading »

Robotech live action movie gets new life

Warner Brothers just asked Nic Mathieu to direct the Robotech. WB is giving this moving a big budget after the success seen with Transformers. Development of this live action version has been in development hell since 2007. Akiva Goldsman and Tobey Maguire are producing along with a bunch of other people. To note, Mathieu has never direct a major motion picture before. His resume consists of commercials. Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. There also seems to be a lot of names attached to this project that all have a say in the creative direction this will go. That is usually never good. Lets hope it turns out good and we actually get to see a live action Robotech movie.
